Easy Kids Experiment – Food Coloring Play for Kids

Our kids love experiments! Since our site is all about being creative and letting kids get messy and have fun making different foods and art pieces, we thought it would be fun to let them experiment with coloring. It doesn’t get any easier than this color experiment for kids.

For this experiment, you only need water and a 4-pack of food coloring. Dye or gel will work great. You’ll also want some clear plastic cups and something to stir. This is a great way to teach kids about colors, what colors can be mixed to make other colors, and more. This is also great for teaching basic cooking skills such as pouring and stirring. This is a fun sensory play activity for toddlers and kids as well.

To start, show your child the four colors included in your set. Place a few drops in each cup. Have a pitcher or some large cups of water handy. Next, pour the water into each different cup. Let your little ones pour the water themselves or stir the dye in.

Only fill them a quarter or halfway. You want plenty of room for them to add other colors together into the cups.

Once you have the small cups filled and stirred with each individual color you can let them play with pouring them into one another. Experiment with blue and yellow to see if they make green, for example.
