Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookie Recipe – One Recipe 5 Different Valentine’s Day Cookies for Kids

This super easy Valentine’s Day cookie recipe can be used for 5 different Valentine’s cookies! This sugar cookie recipe doesn’t need to be chilled and it holds its shape really well. Its cloud-like texture is also easy for kids to roll and use with their favorite cookie cutter. With this recipe, we made traditional Valentine’s sugar cookies with icing, Valentine’s cookie pops, mini Valentine’s cookie sandwiches, black and white heart cookies, and mini Valentine’s sugar cookies.

Ingredients:

1 Cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 Cup granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:

PREHEAT oven to 350° F
In the bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth (about 3 minutes)
Add in extracts and egg
In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients of baking powder, salt, and flour.
Add a small amount of dry ingredients at a time to the wet ingredients.
Flour your surface and roll out the dough onto a countertop surface.
Do not chill.
Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes.
Let cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.

Icing:

1 cup of confectioners sugar
1 tsp of water
Food coloring as needed

Mix sugar, water, and food coloring together with a fork. Add more water or confectioners sugar as desired.

Valentine’s Cookie Pops

To make sugar cookie pop, follow baking instructions above. As soon as you take the cookie out of the oven, you insert a popsicle stick. Once cool, decorate as desired.

Mini Sugar Cookie Whoopie Pies/ Mini Sugar Cookie Sandwiches

To make mini-sugar cookies, follow the recipe instructions above. Your small dough ball will be about the size of a quarter. Flatten and use a fork to add indents to the top. Once the cookies are cool, place icing in the middle and make a sandwich with two cookies together.

To make mini-sugar cookies, follow the recipe instructions above. Your small dough ball will be about the size of a quarter. Flatten down gently and bake and decorate as instructed.

Black and White Heart Cookies

Bake sugar cookie as instructed above. Once the cookie is cool, add white icing to half of the heart. On the other half, we used Nutella for the black side. You can also use icing with black food coloring or melt dark chocolate.

Valentine’s Heart-Shaped Brownie Recipe

This is a quick and easy Valentine’s Day dessert recipe. They look adorable and they are super easy to make. I started with a box of brownie mix to make the brownie. Using a heart cookie cutter we made heart shapes once the brownie was cooled. While waiting you can make the buttercream frosting. We added pink food coloring and sprinkles to give them a Valentine’s Day touch! You can individually wrap these for a cute Valentine’s Day gift, a teacher’s Valentine’s Day gift, or a Valentine’s Day gift for kids. Happy Valentine’s Day from @madebykidsco!

Instructions:

Using your favorite brownie recipe or boxed brownie, make your brownie
Let brownies cool
Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts into the brownie
Set brownie hearts on a plate
Frost brownie hearts using the buttercream frosting recipe below
Add sprinkles and enjoy!

Buttercream Frosting Recipe:

½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
3 drops food coloring, or as needed
Sprinkles as needed

$100 2-Day Basement Playroom Makeover

After Christmas, it was on our agenda to go through and donate a bunch of toys the kids have outgrown or no longer play with. Our basement is a smaller space and while there’s plenty of room to watch a movie or play, there isn’t enough space for hundreds of plastic toys. When we decided to refresh our basement, we wanted to do so without spending much money and without creating more storage for toys. Instead, if the toys didn’t fit into our current storage solutions, off to the donation center they went! Check out our $100 weekend playroom makeover.

Step 1: Declutter

If you’re looking to re-organize your playroom or give do a quick playroom makeover, the best thing you can do is to declutter. Decluttering doesn’t cost you anything and you can do it as often as you’d like. While I painted and created a cute mini-playschool in this refresh, decluttering made the most impact.

Step 2: Paint

Our basement was a blue/gray color and since we only have one window down there it made it feel pretty dark. While I love the look of a dark-colored and moody basement, I wanted to brighten ours up. The color I chose is Behr, Cotton Knit. I used it on the walls and the fireplace.

Step 3: Re-Imagine an Unused Nook

We have a little nook in the basement that’s pretty small. We will likely do a storage solution in it one day For now, the kids voted for mini-play school. I used Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint, a table, stools, and a globe we already had to set it up. The only cost here was the paint but it’s a fun new way to use an unused space.

Step 4: Use Your Existing Storage

We already had these six-cube storage organizers (@Amazon) in weathered gray. I also had a set of square wicker baskets @Amazon that go inside. We made a pact to only keep toys that would fit inside these baskets. We used what we already have to organize each basket by theme. A couple of their favorite larger items sit on top and the rest of the floor space is now open to play.
