The mint julep is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. This minty and refreshing drink is a staple for any Kentucky Derby viewing party. CLASSIC MINT JULEP RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

4 to 5 sprigs of mint (leaves only)
2 sugar cubes or 1/2 ounce simple syrup
2 1/2 ounces of bourbon whiskey
Mint sprig, for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Add mint leaves, sugar, and simple syrup into a julep cup (or glass if you don’t have one). Muddle the sugar to release the mint aroma. Add bourbon and fill the glass with ice. Stir well to chill the drink and frost the julep cup. Add mint for garnish.

KID-FRIENDLY MINT JULEP MOCKTAIL RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

4 to 5 sprigs of mint (leaves only)
1/2 cup of lemonade
Mint sprig, for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Add mint leaves and lemonade. Fill the glass with ice. Stir well to chill the drink and frost the julep cup. Add mint for garnish.
