Project Restoration: (Part 2 of 4)
This article is part of the Chicago Budget Decorator Restoration Series.
A new dining room set can run $1,000 and up at most traditional stores. Recovering your existing chairs can cost as low as $100. All you need is some great fabric, a glue gun or sewing machine, and a little imagination.
Step 1) Disassemble chair seat or cushion and measure space that will be covered with fabric (always order more than your measurements)
Step 2) The fun part – Head to your local fabric store (or order online) the fabric of your choice
Step 3) Depending on the type of seat you’re re-covering, you’ll need to sew a slip cover for your current cushions or hot glue the fabric to your seat. Adding batting or padding can also be a comfy touch.
Step 4) Reassemble chair seat or cushion to chair
Step 5) Have a seat and enjoy!
Note: These instructions are general – consult your local fabric store for instructions regarding your specific chairs.
