The Pony in Lakeview will host its annual Derby Party on Saturday, May 3 which includes a $12 pig roast at 2 p.m., best dressed and best hat contest, country band, drink specials, and more. The Kentucky Derby will be broadcast live on overhead plasma TVs and at tables that feature an individual flat-screen TV for viewing. Other specials include $6 Woodford Reserve mint juleps and $5 Lexington Bourbon.

High Noon Saloon draws on its Tex-Mex roots with a Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring $4 Pacifico Drafts, $3 Tequila Camarena Shots, $8 Classic Margaritas and a free Mariachi Mexico Vivo Performance at 8 p.m. Chef Ruben Beltran (ex-Frontera Grill, Maya de Sol) augments the regular menu with $3 Cinco Sliders (Cemitas Poblanas), roasted chicken thigh with mole poblano amped with pasilla, ancho and guajillo chiles, The drink deals will be offered on May 5 only; the Cinco Sliders will be available May 2-May 5.

Loop-located Cactus Bar and Grill, known for their “Man vs. Margaritas” cocktails, will hold a two day, pre-Cinco de Mayo celebration on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2. The festive events, outlined below, feature a Don Julio tequila tasting party, specialty cocktails and pre-party with plenty of Mexican fare.

Representatives from Tequila Don Julio will offer tasting samples of Don Julio Añejo, best experienced neat or on the rocks, and the Paloma Suprema (Don Julio Reposado, San Pellegrino Pompelmo grapefruit soda, lime wedge, salt rim). Featured cocktails for the day ($6) include: Paloma Suprema; Anejo Spicy margarita (Don Julio Añejo, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, chipotle chili powder, lime wedge); and El Diablo (Don Julio Reposado, Crème de Cassis, ginger beer, lime wedge).
