MAK Brings Fresh, Fast, Asian Fusion To Wicker Park

Local gem alert! MAK owner, Tommy Wang is bringing his passion for food, family recipes and innovation to his Division Street restaurant. With family recipes in tow, MAK aims to elevate and modernize traditional Chinese and Asian fusion to new levels. With naturally raised meats, fresh produce and locally grown ingredients you’ll be happily surprised at the affordable prices. Not skimping on poor quality ingredients is a motto here and you can taste in every item on the menu.

MAK offers a pretty extensive list of proteins, grains/starches and vegetables to choose from. Everything here is fresh and made to order. Their signature bowls and wraps allow for a choice of rice or quinoa, vegetables and protein. For vegetarians you can also substitute tofu or falafel. Vegetarian or not I would highly recommend the falafel! (The sauce is amazing!) Another delicious item you don’t normally see on a Chinese menu is chicken wings. Using a family recipe for the ‘Wang Sauce’ found on both the falafel and chicken wings, you won’t be disappointed.

As a Wicker Park resident and as you know, lover of a good deal – I’d defintely recommend putting MAK on your must try list. Healthy Chinese is usually pretty hard to find and to find it in a quick service restaurant with nothing on the menu over $11, well that’s pretty impossible to find anywhere else.

Also make sure to check out their specials including, Ten Buck Tuesday with your choice of any bowl and a beer for only $10 and Wing Wednesday with half off a combo of beer and chicken wings or falafel in their signature Wang Sauce. Check their website and Poor Girl for new monthly specials as well.

Now go eat! Lauren LaRoche, Poor Girl’s Guide Chicago

Green City Market, Chicago’s premiere sustainable farmer’s market, opens its new additional outdoor location at Fulton Market Saturday, August 9. Twenty vendors selling organic and sustainable produce, vegetables and other goods are expected at the first market. “Green City Market is a perfect market partner for the District. We have a 16-year proven history in Lincoln Park. We are excited for the farmers to have an opportunity to increase the flow of local food to the community,” said Sarah Stegner and Vi Daley, co-chairs of the Green City Market board.

Green City Market has been a destination for locals and visitors to Chicago since its inception in 1998. Last year, Green City Market’s Lincoln Park location broke attendance records, drawing some 10,000 people weekly on Saturdays and 3,000 plus on Wednesdays.

Green City Market has consistently been named in the top 10 of the nation’s best farmers markets by national publications such as Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure, Forbes, Shape, CNN, Huffington Post and US News, among others. The organization recently published its first cookbook, The Green City Market Cookbook, featuring recipes from chefs, restaurateurs and market customers. The cookbook is available at both Green City Market locations as well as on its website.
